Boundary Dam Powerhouse Crane Rehabilitation

Knight Const. & Supply (KCS) updated and modernize the two, existing 250-ton Ederer overhead bridge cranes of the Boundary Dam Powerhouse to meet Seattle City Light’s objective to extend the useable life by another 40 years.

Rehabilitation scope:
1. Complete design/build and installation of an advanced, redundant crane controls & electrical system
2. Replacement of motors, gearboxes and Brakes, sheave nest refurbishment, wire rope replacement
3. Crane cab replacement
4. Crane rail alignment
5. Crane access improvements included spiral staircase and 400’ walkway with access gates every 3’ on its length
6. Load tested to 125% of capacity (312 ton) completed with KCS solid media and load beams

Quality key points:
1. This project was completed under an accelerated schedule, on budget and in accordance with the plans and specifications
2. KCS tested and commissioned cranes and returned them to service in August 2019
